Bangor Buccaneers Victorious!

On Sunday 1st May the Bucs traveled to Hydebank to face the Belfast Angels in their first match of the 2022 season.

The Bucs started slowly putting in 3 runs before the Angels got their turn at bat answering with 4, but it was in the 2nd inning that the Bucs found their stride scoring an incredible 14 runs getting through the batting order before the 3rd enabling the Angels to score 5 runs. The 3rd inning saw careful basework with a mix of 1 base hits and walks giving the Bucs 4 more runs with the Angels securing another 5 by the end of the 3rd inning.

The 4th inning saw rookie Kris Gardiner convert a 2nd base hit into a run due to an Angels dead ball over throw, pushing teammate Ross Cassidy home for 2 RBI’s in his inaugural game! The Angels kept the pressure on adding another 3 runs to their total.

The Bucs added another 6 runs at the top of the 5th before a fly ball catch by the Angels Shortstop ended our turn at bat, a combination of force outs on 1st and fly ball catches ended the inning denying the Angels the opportunity to add any runs to their total.

The Angels had a tight defensive start in the 6th with the Bucs going 3 up 3 down returning to the field for the Angels turn at bat, despite some great batting by the Angels the Bucs were able to get the 3rd out with only 1 run being added to the Angels total.

The 7th inning saw rookie Kris repeat his earlier feat with a powerful hit to the outfield running the bases hot on the heels of his teammate securing a homerun and 2 RBIs! Not one to be outdone, veteran Dave Kelly smashed a homerun hit getting captain Lisa Wallace and himself home for 2 RBIs before the end of the Bucs final at bat. In a strong finish the Bucs secured their own 3 up 3 down with 2 force outs at 1st base and a 3rd out finishing the game.

The Bucs will face the Belfast Cyclones at Wardpark Sunday 15th May at 2pm, spectators encouraged.
